Former courier visits isolated elderly parents for distant children in China
Tian Rui, a 39-year-old former rural courier from Yichang in Hubei province, completed more than 200 trips last year to visit elderly parents in remote mountain villages on behalf of their children working overseas or in distant cities. His clients, including one living in Bolivia over 17,000 kilometres away, request him to deliver medicine, food, and birthday cakes while providing companionship to their ageing parents.
It offers connection to millions of elderly Chinese living alone after children migrated for work.
